經常發現很多朋友用錯了“about”，看看下列對話：
A:What are you talking about?(你們在談什麼呀？)
B:We are talking about ways to spend our holiday.(咱們在談假期怎樣玩呀！)
A:Have you come up with any good ideas ?(可有什麼好主意？)
B:Judy mentioned about going on a trip overseas.Then we discussed about where to go for our holiday.(茱迪提及到外國旅遊，咱們跟著便討論到哪兒玩最好。)
問題出現在“mentioned about”和“discussed about”。我們可以說“talk about”(談及)“think about”(想及)，卻不可說“mention about”(提及)和“discuss about”(論及)。明明都是about something(關於什麼的)，卻有時要用about,有時卻不需用，混亂因此而生。
mention和discuss後不加about
原來“mention”和“discuss”都是transitive verbs(及物動詞)，不需用“about”這個preposition(介系詞)來帶出object(受詞)。所以上列對話中，B君應作下列糾正：
“Judy mentioned going on a trip overseas.Then we discussed where to go for our holiday.”
大家記著以後用“mention”和“discuss”這兩個字時，就千萬不要加上“about”了！
