寫英文推薦信 (Recommendation / Reference Letter)，需刻意運用特別的字去表達特別的意思。某年暑期我校聘用某國前任外交人員之女兒擔任暑期英文銜接課程導師，我為她寫了一封推薦信，謹節錄部分內容，與讀者分享。
She threw herself energetically into her teaching duties, deploying the English language commandingly and persuasively. Through the sheer force of her personality and an entertaining but effective offbeat teaching approach, she made her classroom come to life. She was singularly successful in holding the students’ attention and their respect. Though a novice in the classroom, she displayed the sure touch of a true teaching professional. It was a sterling performance to watch.
Emotionally open, sincere and caring, she often anticipates and promptly attends to the needs of her charges. She is blessed with remarkable communicative skills, connecting lucidly with her audience. She has demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility and a dazzling organizational ability. She is a highly effective leader who commands the universal respect and affection of all who comes within her personal radius. She gives freely of herself, and is totally engaged in every undertaking, however small or demanding.
She is one of the most promising young leaders that I have ever met. My only regret is that her appointment cannot be made permanent. An extraordinary personality like her comes but rarely. She will definitely be an asset to whichever organization that employs her …… ■香港英語促進學會名譽會長 利國傑
