最近有某人力資源公司指出本港不少大學畢業生寫英文申請信時錯漏百出，令僱主啼笑皆非。今天筆者謹列出一些常見的錯誤。
（一）冠詞 (Article) 的錯誤
I refer to your advertisement in Wen Wei Po.（誤）
I refer to your advertisement in the Wen Wei Po.（正）
當提及報章名稱時，須用特指冠詞 “the”。當提及曾在學校參加某些組織活動的名稱亦然。例如：the Sports Club, the Chinese Literature Society, the Yellow House, the Parent-Teacher Association等。
I wish to apply for the post of the Teaching Assistant of your school.（誤）
I wish to apply for the post of Teaching Assistant of your school.（正）
Teaching Assistant是指職位的名稱，不應用 “the”。
He is a graduate of University of Hong Kong.（誤）
He is a graduate of the University of Hong Kong.（正）
提及大學名稱，應用特指冠詞 “the”。
（二） 不同形容詞用不同介系詞 (Preposition)
good at / keen on / enthusiastic in / familiar with / desirous of / experienced in / devoted to / competent in / at / confident of
（三） 介系詞 (Preposition) 之後應用動名詞 (Gerund) 或名詞 (Noun)
I look forward to hear from you.（誤）
I look forward to hearing from you.（正）
（四） 有關主／被動語態 (Voice) 的錯誤
He was graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.（誤）
He graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.（正）
I actively involved in extra-curricular activities.（誤）
I was actively involved in extra-curricular activities.（正）
（五） 句子(Sentence) 與片語(Phrase) 有關標點符號(Punctuation) 的分別
I thank you for your kind attention.（正）
Thanking you for kind attention.（誤）
Thanking you 是分詞片語 (Participial Phrase) 用作形容下款發信人的，不是完整獨立句子，故此不應用圓點 (Full Stop)，應用逗點 (Comma)。 ■香港英語促進學會名譽會長 利國傑
