(Jade zhang, c.1300 - 1200 BC)
(Collection of Sanxingdui Museum)
A large part of the jade zhang displays a bone colour as a result of burning. Its form resembles a ge blade, but its most distinct features are the zhang-shaped motifs incised on both sides, its forked end which resembles a fish's mouth, and a standing bird carved above it. Some scholars believe this bird-fish theme relates to the legendary ancient Shu king, Yufu.
