　這是傳世的古代藝術瑰寶，張擇端的精妙筆墨，不單展示了宋代繪畫藝術的高妙，更有如一幀「老照片」，為後世留下了北宋京城汴梁（開封）的珍貴紀實面貌。據專家學者的數算，在長達五米多的畫幅內，有人物814個、船隻28艘、樹木約170多棵、車20輛、轎8頂；各種商業店舖如酒家、邸店、香藥舖、醫藥舖和各種攤販；建築物如虹橋、城樓、店肆、邸宅等，正如歷來鑑藏家所稱頌「其市橋、郭徑、舟車、邑屋、草樹、牛馬，以及衣冠之出沒遠近，無一不臻其妙。」準確而細膩的描繪，使世人得以窺見一千年前的宋朝首都，這個當時世上最繁華富庶大都會的城市建設、舟車樓房、城市百業、生活文化、風俗習尚。
