崔白在北宋熙寧初年為宋神宗所賞識，延攬入圖畫院學藝。此卷原稱為《九雀圖》，卷首一隻展翅向下飛翔的麻雀，欲停息於一棵無葉枯樹之上。另有八隻同伴散落樹間，造型生動活潑，有倒掛、俯仰、鳴噪、欲眠及修羽等。九隻麻雀雖神態各異，然從其眼神相互的交流，及橫斜樹木榦枝的聯繫，令畫面整合統一，結構緊密。崔白以較濕的用筆鉤勒點染麻雀，細膩精確的筆觸造成鬆軟毛茸茸的羽翼；樹榦則以較乾的筆觸隨意皴擦點染，自然渾成。
The austere scroll opens with a sparrow descending onto a leafless branch to join its eight companions perching on the same tree. Despite the dissimilar representations, the painting is endowed with a coherence effected by the birds' exchange of glances and the horizontally extending branch. While a damp brush is employed to meticulously mimic the fluffiness of the birds, the branch is depicted with spontaneous dry texture strokes. ■資料：香港藝術館
