¡@In 1874, the Shanghai branch of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation moved from its location at Central Hotel on Nanjing Road, the Bund, to a three-storey building at 12 Huangpu Tan Road (present-day Zhongshan Dong Yi Road). To meet the increasing demands arising from the growth of its business, HSBC has extended its building at this address several times. On 23 June 1923, a new HSBC Shanghai branch was inaugurated there. Two bronze lions guarded the main entrance: one of the lions, named Stephen, is depicted roaring; the other, called Stitt, sits there quietly. Created by artist Henry Poole, the lions embody guardianship and security. On display here is Stitt. ¡@¡½¸ê®Æ¡G»´ä¾ú¥v³Õª«À]
