Kai Tak Airport, c. 1930
Kai Tak Land Investment Co. Ltd., founded by Ho Kai and Au Tak, conducted the reclamation of Kai Tak Bund in Kowloon Bay in 1914. In 1919, they began to sell land for residential, factory buildings and warehouses.
In 1928, the Government bought back the Kai Tak Bund including buildings and reclaimed land to build the Kai Tak Airport. The Airport was ready for use in 1932.
In order to expand the airport, the Japanese army demolished historical sites of Sung Wong Toi, Kowloon Walled City and the buildings of Kai Tak Bund in 1943.
After the war, the airport was expanded remarkably. A new runway protruding into Kowloon Bay was put to use in 1958, and an airport terminal was completed in 1962.
