此圖原屬一套題為《1847年4月於珠江的作戰行動》的石版畫。這套版畫在1848年出版，共十一幅，按照馬丁上尉所畫的一批原稿刻印，記錄了1847年4月香港總督戴維斯率領英軍襲擊虎門，砲轟廣州，以武力強行進入廣州城的一次軍事行動。此圖是第三幅，描繪了虎門要塞及兩岸砲台的景貌。畫面右方為威遠砲台。時為1847年4月2日，戰船「禿鷹」號於當天駛進虎門，戰事一觸即發。

This was originally one of a series of lithograph entitled Operations in the Canton River, in April, 1847. Published in 1848, the series comprises 11 prints made from originals drawn by Lieut. Martin. The prints record a military operation in April 1847 when Governor of Hong Kong Sir John Francis Davis led the British troops to launch an attack on Bocca Tigris, and force entry into the City of Canton (Guangzhou). 資料：香港藝術館提供
