1834年9月2日兩廣總督下令中止中英貿易。英國駐華商務總監律勞卑指令在珠江口的兩艘軍艦「伊莫金」號及「安德勞瑪琪」號駛往黃埔，向清廷示威。兩艘軍艦9月5日到達虎門，並於9月7日及9日與兩岸砲台爆發砲戰。此圖描寫了當時的激烈戰況。左方的橫檔砲台正向「伊莫金」號開砲，在右方「安德勞瑪琪」號與威遠砲台激戰。小戰船「露依莎」號在兩艘軍艦中間，1841年佔領香港的義律當時正在該船上。

This drawing depicts the conflict. Wantong Fort on the left is firing at the Imogene and the Andromache on the right is exchanging fire with the Anunghoi Batteries. In between the two warships is the cutter Louisa. Captain Charles Elliot, who was to occupy Hong Kong in 1841, was on board.
