從虎門外望海灣/1811

畫中描繪的應為虎門安森灣的景色。安森灣位於珠江左岸穿鼻砲台與威遠砲台之間。在遮打藏品目錄《中國通商圖》中，此作被定為磨刻版畫。然而以立體顯微鏡觀察所見，此作相信是一幅蝕刻版畫，是一種凹製版技法。做法是在金屬面版面上灑上松脂粉作為抗體，再以酸液腐蝕出層次感，專門用於表現含蓄的濃淡明暗的效果。完成的作品可媲美水彩畫。
This should be Anson's Bay of Bocca Tigris. The bay is set between Chuenpee Fort and the Anunghoi Batteries on the left bank of the Canton River. In the Chater Collection catalogue, this piece is catogorised as a mezzotint. When examined with a stereomicroscope, however, it is more likely to be an aquatint. Aquatint can create a subtle tonal effect that rivals watercolours.
