Bronze jia wine vessel with ruding pattern

(Xia dynasty,2070BC - 1600BC)

The jia is a wine container and warmer. The upper part of this bronze jia is shaped like a trumpet, with a pair of mushroom-like columns on the rim. The vessel has a round belly, with three hollow and cone-like legs. Below the neck there is decoration with string and ruding patterns and there are five raised round decorations on the belly. This jia has an unsophisticated shape, with simple but irregular patterns. The shape and form as well as the decorations on the body are similar to that of the pottery jia and bronze jue wine vessels of the Erlitou period. The bronze jia of the Erlitou culture was one of the earliest bronze ritual vessels in China.
