西周 (Western Zhou dynasty,1046 BC– 771BC
(Henan Museum collection)
The bronze jue was first used as a wine vessel in the Xia dynasty. Its popularity peaked during the Shang dynasty and declined in the Western Zhou dynasty. This is a typical model of the bronze jue in the late stage of development. It has a wide, a short spout with a pointed tail tilting upwards. On the rim edge is a pair of tall, big, umbrella-shaped columns. The belly protrudes a little. The jue has a round base with three triangular, cone-shaped legs. The columns are decorated with a vortex pattern and the belly was cast with a taotie pattern on top of a thunder pattern.
