• 由於花的外形像吊鐘，而且體積較大，所以又名「吊鐘王」。但兩者屬於不同科的。根據文獻記載，在1849年於香港仔區首次發現紅花荷。
• 花朵由5－6塊苞片，像鱗片般互相重疊組成。摸一摸葉片，感覺很厚，但沒有毛。葉面深綠色，而且有光澤；葉底則是灰白色的。它們屬於細小喬木，約9米高。樹榦又長又直，分枝很多。
• 它們適合生長在近水而且陰涼的地方。
Rhodoleia
• Rhodoleia's flower is large, and looks like a bell-hence its Chinese name, "the bell king". It is quite different from the Chinese New Year Flower, which also bears bell-shaped flowers. In Hong Kong, the species was first discovered at Aberdeen in 1849.
• The flowers have 5 to 6 petals, overlapping each other. Its leaf is thick and hairless. The upper leaf surface is dark green and shiny, and the back is greyish white. Rhodoleia is a tree about 9m in height. The upright trunk has many side branches.
