黃金 Gold
黃金在美洲人的信仰中，具有深刻的象徵意涵。作為一種持久、永不腐蝕的物質，它的珍貴被隱喻如同睿智的長老及祭司所擁有的學識涵養一樣，是永傳後世且神聖無比的。我們可透過16世紀的西班牙史家的記錄，得知當時美洲酋長和祭司喜好穿戴大量的黃金飾品，說明美洲人對黃金的迷戀。傳說中在一個一年一度的儀式典禮中，人們會將某人全身灑滿金粉，成為一個「金人」，讓他進入湖中進行沐浴儀式；盛會期間也會製作出許多華麗的金製禮品。從流傳下來的黃金面具，我們可推斷，上述的故事可能真實發生過。
Gold had a profound symbolic significance in Amerindian beliefs.
