Chinese New Year Flower
¡@The bell-shaped flower is just over 1 cm long .It is usually pink or red at the base,and white around its edges-which usually curl outward .It is a deciduous shrub ,usually around 2 m tall.
¡@It is widely distributed in Hong Kong,for example at Quarry Bay,Victoria Peak and Repulse Bay on Hong Kong Island;Ma On Shan and Pat Sin Leng in the New Territories and at Wong Lung Hang and Tai Fung Au on Lantau Island.
¡@It usually flowers in February ,around Chinese New Year time .Traditionally,local Chinese consider that it brings good luck and fortune-and therefore it used to be sold in the Chinese New Year flower markets.The Government listed it as a protected species under the Forests and Countryside Ordinance Cap.96.¡@¡½¸ê®Æ¡Gº®Å@¸p
