由1910年代起，這裡成為市民的游泳勝地，有十多座各大會所和公司的泳棚在此設立。
正中為筲箕灣道，有棚架處為於1918年開業的名園遊樂場，這一帶現時為糖水道北角電車總站。
1930年代，北角進行填海，將筲箕灣道擴闊。為紀念英皇喬治五世登位銀禧，筲箕灣道易名為英皇道。

From 1910s, this area had become a popular swimming spot. More than ten swimming houses were built by famous associations and business firms.
Shau Kei Wan Road is in the middle. The bamboo shelf was a part of Ming Yuen Amusement Park, established in 1918. This location is today's Tong Shui Road, North Point tramway terminus.
In 1930s, the reclamation of North Point broadened Shau Kei Wan Road. The name of Shau Kei Wan Road was changed to King's Road in 1935 to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George the fifth's on throne.
