　此幅作品應是從西望洋山向北眺的南灣景色。

　羅伯特．埃利奧特是海軍業餘海景畫家。他於1822至1824年到訪中國。他以熟練的技巧，精確地描繪了充滿南歐情調的南灣。畫面最左方是聖若瑟修院的圓拱形鐘樓，其右方是聖奧古斯汀堂的前壁，中央是大砲台，右方是松山（東望洋山）砲台，下方是嘉思欄砲台與聖芳濟修院。

　A lovely vista enjoyed by the artist who was probably looking north to Praya Grande from Penha Hill.

　Captain Robert Elliot R.N. was an amateur marine-painter of the Royal Navy.He visited China between 1822 and 1824. Here,he portrayed the picturesque Praya Grande with masterly strokes, expressing its romantic Mediterranean mood with great precision. On the far left is the belfry dome of St. Joseph's Seminary. On its right is the facade of St.Augustine Church. Monte Fort can be seen in the centre while Guia Fort is on the right. At its lower corner are the Franciscan Fort and the Convent of St.Francis. 　　資料：香港藝術館提供
