文徵明，初名壁，更字徵仲，號衡山居士，長洲（今江蘇蘇州）人。為「吳門畫派」核心人物之一，於繪事與沈周、唐寅 及仇英並稱「明四大家」；書法則與祝允明、王寵有「吳中三大家」之譽。文氏於畫壇影響深遠，繼承其家學者及門弟子甚多。
Wen Zhengming was a native of Suzhou, Jiangsu province. His landscape paintings exhibited two different modes: Bold and expressive as well as meticulous and restrained. He was one of the “Three Gifted Scholars of the Wu District” and one of the “Four Masters of the Ming Dynasty”, as well as a central figure of the Wu School. His many descendants and students perpetuated his style. His influence on the history of painting can be considered profound and far-reaching.
