早期人跡罕至，直至1920年代初，司徒拔道、黃泥涌峽道及淺水灣道相繼落成後，才成為游泳勝地。
1924年，香港大酒店在此興建淺水灣酒店，同時提供由中環至淺水灣的巴士線。
早期只有簡陋的竹木棚泳屋，到了1947年，才改為鐵架及帆布。
淺水灣畔有一座古堡式別墅，但於1990年代被拆卸。
Repulse Bay, c. 1925
Repulse Bay, a swimmers' favorite, was a desolate place before Stubbs Road, Wong Nai Chung Gap Road and Repulse Bay Road completed in the early 1920s.
The Repulse Bay Hotel, which belonged to the Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels Limited,was built in 1924. The company provided bus-services between Repulse Bay and Central.
In the early days, the swimming houses were the simple cottages made of bamboo and wood. In 1947, they became iron and canvas structures.
There was a classical castle-style villa standing at the beach but it was demolished in the 1990s. ■鄭寶鴻 香港歷史博物館名譽顧問
