特區2009年的施政報告以"Breaking New Ground Together" (群策創新天)命題，帶出了特首的良好意願。在英語世界內，這個"ground"字，用途很多，今天與大家暢談它的其中一些解釋和用法。看一看下列舉例：
Ground一字多義
1. He found a ten-dollar note on the ground.(他在地上找到一張10元紙幣。)
這是ground最常見的解釋：「地面」或「地上」，也可用floor取代。
2. Crops cannot grow on infertile ground.(在貧瘠的土地上種不出農作物。)
在這句內，ground解作泥土，與soil同義。

6. All planes out of the airport have been grounded by the typhoon. (所有離境飛機都因颱風而停飛。)
這句內grounded意指被逼停留地面，不能起飛。
7. Ground coffee is more convenient and thus more popular with modern-day people.(咖啡粉較方便，故較受現代人歡迎。)
這是ground的另一意思：磨碎。是grind的過去分詞。
8. She bought a pound of ground beef.(她買了一磅絞碎的牛肉。)
在美國，ground beef是用來做hamburger(漢堡包)的牛肉；在英國則稱minced beef)。
