明報前總編輯劉進圖遇襲，由多個新聞組織組成的「新聞界反暴力聯席」2日發起「反暴力．緝真兇．保法治」集會遊行。實際上，此次襲擊劉進圖的暴力事件，不僅僅針對個別人士，也不僅僅是新聞界，而是威脅到全體市民，衝擊香港的法治。本港的新聞機構，不分左中右都一同參與遊行，立法會不同黨派的議員成為遊行隊伍中的一分子，清晰表達了全社會反暴力、護法治的強烈信息。
此次血腥暴力襲擊事件挑釁香港法治，無視法治尊嚴，影響香港的國際形象。特區政府重申，香港是一個法治社會，絕對不會容忍任何暴力的行為。警方亦承諾，全力緝拿真兇。如果讓兇徒逍遙法外，暴力得不到法律制裁，類此襲擊可能一再重演，香港安寧難以保障，法治公義得不到彰顯，不僅新聞工作者，每個市民都將是受害者。因此，緝拿兇徒不僅是警方的責任，市民同樣責無旁貸。所有知悉案情的人，都應主動向警方提供線索，協助警方追兇，不論兇徒再神通廣大，逃到天涯海角，在全港社會上下一心的努力下，誓將其緝捕歸案，接受本港法律的懲處，讓公義得以伸張，保護市民免受暴力的威脅，維護本港文明法治安全的形象。
Demonstration sends strong voice: fight against violence and uphold the rule of law
In response to the attack on Mr. Lau Chun-to, former chief editor of Ming Pao, the Press Coalition Against Violence, which was formed by a number of news media groups, organized a mass gathering and demonstration on 2 March to voice their demand on 'fighting against violence, arresting the culprits and upholding the rule of law'. The brutal attack on Lau in fact has not only pointed at individual person or the media, but also posed a threat to the general public and made an attack on the rule of law in Hong Kong. News media organizations in Hong Kong, regardless of political positions, participated in the demonstration and legislators from different parties or groups also joined the march. This conveyed the message, loud and clear, that all Hong Kong people stand united against violence and are determined to uphold the rule of law.
The bloody attack, being a challenge to and contempt for the rule of law, damaged the international image of Hong Kong. The HKSAR government has reiterated that Hong Kong is a lawful society and will not tolerate any act of violence. The police have also vowed that they will spare no efforts in finding the culprits. If these criminals are able to escape legal sanction and such violent acts are not punished by law, similar attacks will possibly happen again, and then it will be very difficult to ensure public peace and order as well as to see justice done in Hong Kong. Not only news media workers but all people of Hong Kong will fall victim to such violence. Therefore, while it is the duty of the police to catch the attackers, the citizens at large also have a responsibility. Anyone who has any lead relating to the attack should come forward and report to the police to help track down the criminals. No matter what these culprits can be up to and no matter where they are escaping to, with the community working as a whole in a united front, Hong Kong has the determination to catch these villains and put them to punishment under law so that justice will be served, people will be free from the threat of violence, and the image of Hong Kong as a safe, civilised and lawful society will be maintained.■English Translation by Tung-ming
