http://paper.wenweipo.com   [2006-10-06]

Manchester United gained the upper _________ in the first half of the match but finally Liverpool won.

The residents escaped by a ______________ breath just before the building collapsed.

Some of my students always have their ___________ in the clouds and cannot focus in class.

People who attend the Sunday Masses all enjoy Father Martin's sermons which always warm the cockles of their ______________.

John is very good at telling ghost stories which always make my __________ stand on end.

Mr. Gibson seems to be bad-tempered but he really has a _____________ of gold.

The students have to finish the joint project within this week, so it is a case of all ____________ to the pump.

David manages to keep his __________ above water although he is not earning much.

1. to gain the upper hand (佔了上風) 2. to escape by a hair's breath (九死一生的逃亡) 3. to have one's head in the clouds (作白日夢) 4. to warm the cockles of one's heart (使人愉快) 5. to make one's hair stand on end (使人毛骨悚然) 6.to have a heart of gold (好心腸的人) 7. to have all hands to the pump (人人出力) 8. to keep one's head above water (未舉債)】

Sir
