Savings box of the Dah Kong Bank
民國 (Republican period,1912-1949)
Savings boxes were a common gift item that banks offered customers when they developed a new line of business or on the bank's anniversary. Savings boxes of different styles were given to different customers. As “savings” signifies frugality, a traditional Chinese virtue, the savings boxes achieved goals beyond the simple promotion of business by endorsing a well-respected value in Chinese culture. They are thus attributed immense significance in China's banking history.
