勝家縫紉機是一家美國品牌，創立於1851年，初期在華譯稱「鐵裁縫」。早在1880年代，該公司在上海南京路設立專賣店，繼而在全國各地開辦學校，一面培訓、一面推銷。由於縫紉機的普及，上海在1919年已出現專門維修縫紉機的店舖，1947年更有首部國產縫紉機面世。
Singer Sewing Machine Company, an American brand, was founded in 1851. In its early days, the sewing machine was known as the “Iron Tailor”. As early as the 1880s, Singer had opened a specialist store on Nanjing Road in Shanghai. It then inaugurated sewing schools throughout China, combining training with sales and marketing. The sewing machine became popular and maintenance stores for sewing machines emerged in Shanghai in 1919. In 1947, the first Chinese-made sewing machine appeared on the market. 資料：香港歷史博物館
