上回跟大家談Compound Nouns(複合名詞)，這次看一看Compound Adjectives(複合形容詞)的用法。
Compound Adjectives很多時是一個Adjective加一個Past Participle(過去分詞)或Present Participle(現在分詞) 結合而成的。
看下列：
1. My uncle is a kind-hearted man and never says "no" to whoever seeks help from him.
(我的叔父宅心仁厚；他從不拒向其求助的人於千里之外。)
2. He is tired of her never-ending complaints.
(她永不休止的投訴令他感到煩厭。)
句一的"kind-hearted"是用一個形容詞與一個過去分詞配搭而成；句二的"never-ending"則是由一個形容詞和一個現在分詞構成的。
複合形容詞填充題
請用過去分詞或現在分詞為下列句子配上正確的複合形容詞：
例子：
1. (stand)There are long-standing grievances in the society that might cause societal chaos. (這個社會長期充斥不滿，可能導致社會動盪。)
2. (live)The Royal Family tend to be quite long-lived.(那皇族的人大都相當長壽。)
填充題：
1. (look): He is a good-_____actor.(他是一個英俊的演員。)
2. (temper): She is a good-_____mother.(她是一個脾氣好的母親。)
3. (reach): We should adopt their far_____proposals.
(我們應採用他們那些意義深遠的建議。)
4. (fetch): I like the story although it is rather far-_____. (那故事雖然離奇了點，但我也喜歡它。)
5. (wear):These clothes are made of hard-_____materials.
(這些衣服是由耐用的材料製成的。)
6. (cover): The snow-_____roofs look beautiful in the distance.(從遠處看，蓋滿雪的屋頂顯得漂亮。)

1.good-looking 2.good-tempered 3.far-reaching 4.far-fetched 5.hard-wearing 6.snow-covered
複合形容詞變化多端，除在形容詞或副詞後加過去或現在分詞來構成外，也可在名詞後加過去或現在分詞來組成的，如decision-making(做決定的)、sun-dried(太陽焙乾的)等；也可是一個名詞搭一個形容詞，如world-famous(聞名於世的)；也可倒過來，形容詞搭名詞，如last-minute(最後一刻的)。可見英語的浩瀚世界內，精深博大，學之不盡也！
