中國是強國嗎？（十五）

在牛津學聯的演講；牛津，2009年4月29日

回到我演講開始時提出的那個問題：中國是強國嗎？

我堅信，中國有著13億勤勞、智慧和追求幸福生活的人民，注定要成為一個強盛的國家，但是，這需要一個過程，而且中國不會成為霸權。中國取得今天的成就，不是靠戰爭，而是靠廣大人民的辛勤勞動和與世界的公平貿易得來的。中國力量的根基在於經濟發展。

因此，中國外交的目標也將是推動世界的和平與合作，唯其如此，中國方能更好地發展經濟，使人民過上更加美好的生活。

Is China a Power? (15)

Now coming back to the question I started the speech with: 洍s China a power？*

I firmly believe that China, a country with 1.3billion smart and hard-working people dedicated to the pursuit of a happy life, is destined to be a strong country in the world. But it takes time. China will not seek hegemony, as it has come this far not through war, but through the hard work of the vast number of its people and through fair trading with the world. The source of China掇 strength is its economy.

China掇 diplomatic objective is to promote peace and cooperation in the world, which is the only way to secure even greater economic prosperity and even better lives for our people.
