大家有看過《怪獸公司》（Monsters, Inc.）這套經典動畫嗎？影片主要圍繞怪獸公司旗下的兩名怪物，一位是頭號嚇人專家「毛怪」蘇利文（"Sulley" Sullivan），另一位則是毛怪的助手兼最好朋友「大眼仔」麥克．華斯基（Mike Wazowski）。他們的工作就是晚上通過有特殊功能的門，從怪物世界進入人類小朋友的房間去嚇他們（Their job was to get to the human world via special functional doors from the monster world and scare the children），因為孩子們的尖叫聲（children's scream）可以成為怪物世界所需的能源來源（energy source）。但是對於怪物來說，人類孩童據說是非常危險和致命的（children were thought to be very dangerous and fatal），只要一下接觸就可以致死，並且爆發大範圍感染（monsters could be dead by softly touching a child and be contaminated）。
在戲中，另一位驚嚇專員藍道．博格斯（Randall Boggs）一直在毛怪之下屈居亞軍，所以對他很是妒忌。為了贏，藍道把已經啟用的門留在驚嚇樓層（the scare floor），打算用這門來獲得額外的驚嚇積分（to obtain extra scare scores）。誰不知，一個女孩卻因此而走進怪物世界，毛怪和大眼仔把小女孩帶回家，卻發現她並沒有周身佈滿「劇毒」（Later on, Sulley and Mike successfully brought the little girl back home and found that she was not full of toxins ）。毛怪很快喜歡上了這個小女孩，還給她起名叫「布」（Sulley almost liked her instantly and named the little girl Boo）。
怪獸公司的老闆沃特諾斯和藍道原來是同一夥人，他把大眼仔和毛怪流放至喜馬拉雅山脈，並綁架了布（exiled Sulley and Mike to the Himalayas and kidnapped Boo）。兩怪獲雪人幫忙，通過村莊裡的衣櫃門重返怪獸公司，和藍道正面交鋒。大眼仔和毛怪帶着布逃進了公司裝門的倉庫，這裡有數以百萬計的門，他們發現布的笑聲帶來的巨大能量（they found that Boo's laughters could bring enormous energy）。布更幫助毛怪打敗了藍道，兩怪將藍道扔進一扇門中並將門摔碎，令他不能再作惡（Boo helped Sulley to defeat Randall. The two monsters threw Randall into one of the doors and smashed it so he could not do bad deeds anymore）。
毛怪根據自己和布在一起的經歷，想出了挽救怪物城市能源危機的新方案（According to Sulley's experience with Boo, Sulley thought of a new method to combat with Monstropolis' energy crisis）。怪獸公司的發電方式變了（The way Monsters Inc. generated electricity has changed），如今怪物們雖然一樣是在夜裡穿過衣櫃的門進入人類孩童的臥室（now monsters still get through the door and go into children's bedroom at night），但他們其實是要去逗樂孩子（but they actually go there to make children happy），因為孩子們的歡笑聲中含有遠勝尖叫聲的能量（because children's laughters have far better energy than screams）。
最後，大眼仔說要送毛怪一份禮物（At last, Mike said he wanted to give Sulley a present），原來他把那扇被粉碎的門再次拼起來（he collaged the pieces of the smashed door），毛怪手中還儲存着最後一片作紀念，但他把這一片放回原位時，門成功開啟了（when Sulley put back the last piece of that door he saved, the door opened successfully ），他走了進去，看到布，非常高興（he went inside, saw Boo, feeling overjoyed）。
令人歡樂的能量當然遠遠勝過令人恐懼的能量。這亦是Monsters Inc.這套戲的主旨。很多人問我，什麼是最佳學習英文的方法。是恐嚇學生去背海量的英文生字，無意思地死記英文文法嗎？還是提起他們興趣，令他們覺得自己是從遊戲中學習，learn while having fun and laughter呢？相信讀者們一定有心目中的答案。■馬漪楠
