Ghosn fled Japan hiding in double bass case with help from wife

¡iĶ¤å¡jThe former Nissan Chairman Carlos Ghosn fled Japan for Beirut, Lebanon recently and the details of his escape gradually came to light. The escape plan was reportedly organized by his wife Carole with assistance of a team of ex-special forces officers, who disguised themselves as a music band and had performance at Ghosn's Tokyo residence, and then helped him slip into a large musical instrument case and finally transferred him to a private jet for a flight to Lebanon through Turkey.

According to the bail conditions, Ghosn's Tokyo residence has to be equipped with 24-hour CCTV system for monitoring his movements by law enforcement agency. It was said that Ghosn might have decided to flee in search of a less stringent trial in Lebanon because of the new evidence the Japanese authority could have obtained from Switzerland and Dubai.

The Guardian reported that Carole appealed to her networking in Turkey and worked with a team of private security guards composed of ex-special forces officers who disguised themselves as musicians and performed at a glitzy dinner at Ghosn's residence.

At the end of the performance, as the music band packed up their instruments, Ghosn, who was 1.7 metres tall, hid in a double bass case and was taken to a car. He arrived Osaka's Kansai International Airport after 6 hours of travelling, and then boarded a private plane and left Japan.

The plane tracking website showed that a Bombardier Challenger private jet of a Turkish private airline departed at 11:10pm at the Kansai International Airport and arrived Istanbul the next morning. Another smaller aircraft of the same company flew from Istanbul to Lebanon about half an hour later. Carole described her joy at being reunited with her husband as having "the best gift of her life".

The process of Ghosn leaving Japan for Turkey was still a mystery. As musical instruments are classified as carry-on baggage of passengers that would need to go through X-ray inspection according to the Japanese airport security rules, so Ghosn should no longer hide in the case when boarding the plane. As his passports were still held by the Japanese authority, it was believed that he might have used a false passport for departure.

A Lebanese foreign ministry official said Ghosn arrived in Lebanon by a private plane from Turkey, but his name was not on the passenger list when he boarded in Turkey. Yet, he entered Lebanon legally on a French passport and using his Lebanese ID with normal security procedures.

Ghosn said he was prepared for media interviews from next week and more details would be revealed by then.

After arriving in Lebanon, Ghosn stayed in his house in Beirut where private security guards were standing guard and identity verification was in place. The security guards did not respond to any questions from journalists. Ghosn was reportedly to have met Lebanon's president Michel Aoun and he might be provided with special protection by the authority.

Yosuke Isozaki, member of the Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, said any countries assisting Ghosn in fleeing Japan might have violated the Japanese jurisdiction rules, resembling the case of kidnapping of Japanese citizens by North Korea decades ago. He urged the government to deal with this problem seriously.¡½Ãe¹Å»ö
