之前曾跟大家介紹過，英語世界中最古老的大學，就是大家熟悉的牛劍（Oxbridge，劍橋大學和牛津大學聯合簡稱）。不過，其實還有一間大學不亞於這兩間名校，今天就跟大家介紹來自蘇格蘭的聖安德魯斯大學。
聖安德魯斯大學於1413年創立，是蘇格蘭最歷史悠久的大學，也是當地評價最高的大學。（Founded in 1413, the University of St Andrews is Scotland's oldest and highest-ranking university.）聖安德魯斯大學裏面有三所學院，分別為United College（聯合學院）、St Mary's College（聖瑪麗學院）和St Leonard's College（聖倫納茲學院），其中聖倫納茲學院是一所深造學院。（St Andrews is made up of a variety of institutions, comprising three colleges - United College (a union of St Salvator's and St Leonard's Colleges), St Mary's College, and St Leonard's College, the last named being a non-statutory revival of St Leonard's as a post-graduate society.）
因為歷史的關係，除了現代建築物以外，聖安德魯斯大學還擁有很多歷史悠久的建築物，整個聖安德魯斯大學本身就是一個市鎮。每年聖安德魯斯大學都有兩個學期，分別為Martinmas和Candlemas。（The university occupies historic and modern buildings located throughout the town. The academic year is divided into two terms, Martinmas and Candlemas. ）在學期中，整個市鎮有三分之一的人，屬於聖安德魯斯大學的教職員或學生。（In term time, over one-third of the town's population is either a staff member or student of the university.）而1981年的英國勵志電影《Chariots of Fire》（烈火戰車），就是在聖安德魯斯大學旁邊的West Sands Beach拍攝。
說到聖安德魯斯大學名人畢業生（Notable Alumni），就要數到英國王位第二繼承人--劍橋公爵威廉王子（Prince William, Duke of Cambridge）與劍橋公爵夫人凱特（Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge）。
