九廣鐵路於1906年開始興建,由尖沙咀至羅湖的「英段」,於1910年通車。1911年,連貫深圳和廣州的「華段」亦全線通車。
1911年,曾有一條由粉嶺至沙頭角的火車專線,直到1928年停駛。
1949年,內地政權易手,九龍及廣州的直通車服務暫停,到1979年恢復運作。
鋪設雙軌和電氣化的鐵路工程於1982年完成。九廣鐵路在1983年全面通車。
Kowloon-Canton Railway(C.1970)
The Kowloon-Canton Railway's construction work began in 1906. The railway linking Tsim Sha Tsui and Lo Wu(British section)was opened in 1910. Next year, the Shenzhen-Guangzhou(Canton section) was also completed.
There was a railway from Fanling to Sha Tau Kok in 1911, this extension was stopped in 1928.
Following the change of political regime in 1949, the through-trains from Hong Kong to Guangzhou were stopped until 1979.
The construction work with double tracks and the electrification of train services was completed in 1982, the train services were fully opened in 1983. ■鄭寶鴻 香港歷史博物館榮譽顧問
