　暑假結束，新學期開始，又要重新投入工作了，所以今次用了「back to the grindstone」（回到石磨之處）作標題。

　「Back to the grindstone」即是「back to work」，意思是重返工作崗位，特別是在休息或假期之後重新投入工作。

　After the long summer holiday, we have to be back to the grindstone.

　經過長長的暑假後，我們要重返工作崗位了。

　Lunch is over; it's time to go back to the grindstone.

　午飯時間已過，該重返工作崗位了。

鼻貼石磨 埋首工作

　Grindstone是用一塊圓形大石打造而成的一種工具，用於打磨。當要使用這種石磨，就是要開始工作的時候。

　由此可以追溯到另外一句古老的常用語，「put/keep your nose to the grindstone」，把鼻子貼近石磨，意思是埋首工作，努力不懈，特別是長時間工作，不作休息。

　If you want to get good results, you have to keep your nose to the grindstone.

　如果你想取得好成績，必須不休息埋首工作。

　To buy a flat, he has put his nose to the grindstone for the past several years.

　為了買一個居住單位，他在過去數年不停十分努力地工作。

驅策別人 旨在佳績

　如果說「put/keep somebody's nose to the grindstone（使別人把鼻子貼近石磨）」，就是驅策或督促別人不停地勤奮工作，以獲得佳績。

　The coach has put every player's nose to the grindstone in order to win the champion.

　教練驅策各隊員艱苦地練習，旨在贏得冠軍。

　The boss put our noses to the grindstone so that we could finish the project in time.

　老闆督促我們埋首工作，務求及時完成這個項目。

　「Back to the grindstone」應該源於「keep your nose to the grindstone」。新學年開始，大家不僅要返回石磨崗位，重新投入工作，更要把鼻子貼近石磨，努力用功。　■Lina CHU
