平等的象徵 Allegory of Equality

以三角形(或水平儀)來象徵平等是最常見的標誌，但很多時候也會像此作品般，將平等描繪成穿上古代服飾的女性。畫中描繪了象徵慷慨的多乳之神阿爾忒彌斯，並以王座作點綴，這正是法國大革命的形象。儘管議會未能成功爭取真正平等，但至少建立了公民意識，讓後世引以為鑒。
The most common iconography of Equality is the triangle (or level) but it is also often represented as a woman dressed like antiquity as in this work. The character with multiple breasts who is decorated with the throne is a reminder of Artemis but above all it symbolises generosity. And this is the true image of the French Revolution which a true equality was not achieved but at least civil awareness was established and to be followed as a definitive principle. ■資料：香港歷史博物館
