¡@Jin Nong(1687¡V1763)was a native of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. After the prestigious Boxue hongci(Erudite Literatus Examination)had been launched in 1735, he was recommended for this honour in the following year but was unsuccessful. He finally settled in Yangzhou and sold paintings to support himself. He was an accomplished scholar and he started to paint at the age of fifty. He assimilated the calligraphic styles of the inscriptions of ancient bronzes and stone stelae into his pictorial works imbuing them with a sense of archaic simplicity and austere bluntness. Apart from being noted for painting a variety of subjects ranging from landscapes and figures to plum blossoms and bamboo, he also invented a new calligraphic style known as qishu(lacquer script). He was also a prolific writer. He was a member of the "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou". ¡@¡½¸ê®Æ¡G»´äÃÀ³NÀ]
