Fact（事實）與opinion（意見）不同。Fact是已發生的事實，是客觀真相，而opinion則是對人或事的一些主觀想法，不一定是真相。今次說一些和fact這個字有關的日常用法。
首先，fact這個字本身就帶有真實的意思，所以通常不會用形容詞true(真實、確實)來形容fact(事實)。例如These facts are true或the true facts都是累贅的寫法，可以直接說：
These are the facts。這些就是事實。
加形容詞增強語氣
如果需要用形容詞，可以用hard(肯定)、simple(簡單)、important(重要)等字眼加強語氣，例如：
The hard fact is that inflation has become a worrying problem.
通脹已經成為令人擔憂的問題，這是絕對肯定的事實。
We need to find out the important facts before we can make a judgment.
我們必須找出重要的事實，才可以作出判斷。
Fact相關短語
有很多常用的說法與fact這個字有關。其中一個是facts and figures。這短語指某事件的基本細節及數據資料。
You can find a lot of facts and figures of the listed companies online.
你可以在網上找到很多關於這家上市公司的資料和數據。
The committee made the decision based on facts and figures.
委員跟據資料和數據作出決定。
另一個是the fact remains。這短語用來重申某些事實仍然存在，而且提醒大家注意。
There is a large gap between the rich and the poor. The fact remains and the government has to do something.
貧富差距十分大。這個現實仍然存在，而政府必須有所對策。
It might not be your intention but the fact remains that your words hurt him.
你可能是無心之失，但事實仍然沒變，就是你的說話傷害了他。
讀寫俱可 助表意見
此外，還有the facts speak for themselves。這有點像中文諺語「事實勝於雄辯」，表示已發生的事實證明了某觀點是對的。
The team needs more practice. The facts speak for themselves. They lost three out of four games this month.
這球隊需要多加操練。事實勝於雄辯。他們在這個月作賽4場，輸了3場。
Obviously, we need more manpower in hospitals. The facts speak for themselves. The doctors and nurses are overworked.
明顯地，我們的醫院需要增加人手。事實勝於雄辯。醫生和護士都在超負荷地工作。
