上次我和同學分享過增強詞彙以提升英文作文的分數，今天我想和讀者分享另外一個奪取優異成績的秘訣-那就是在文章句子結構上引入變化了。簡單說，能夠在考試中取得佳績的同學，他們的答案總是relevant（適宜的），well-organized（有條理的），variety（具變化的）或有創意的。Mediocre（中等的）答案通常欠缺variety但仍然relevant；表現marginal或更差的同學可能連relevant也做不到。要引入文章層面上的變化，同學可以從以下兩方面入手（見圖）。
如何在句子結構上引入變化？方法其實有多種，今日主要分享三種方法。
Example
Mary wants to get excellent results in HKDSE. She attends tutorial classes after school to get additional practice. （Example原本由兩句simple sentences組成。）
Variation 1: 通過運用不同的conjunctions (e.g. and, or, but, so, for etc.)， 將simple sentences變成compound sentences.
Mary wants to get excellent results in HKDSE, so she attends tutorial classes after school to get additional practice.
Variation 2: 通過運用不同的subordinators (because, if, although, that etc.)，將simple sentences變成complex sentences.
Since Mary wants to get excellent results in HKDSE, she attends tutorial classes after school to get additional practice.
Variation 3: 用opening word or phrase 作句字的起首Wanting to get excellent results in HKDSE, Mary attends tutorial classes after school to get additional practice. ■Dr. A. Chan
