Paralyzed Girl Created Miracles
¡@Life is fragile; so fragile that it can vanish into ashes any moment. But the spirit can be strong; so strong that it can fight destiny, work miracles after miracles. Chan Ka-kei, a 17-year-old girl who almost got killed in the car crash which occurred in Yuen Long early last year, had never dreamed of miracles happening in her life. However, having narrowly escaped from death, she comes to realize that with an iron will, miracles can be everywhere.
¡@Ka-kei had got enough luck to cheat death, but not quite enough to shake off the continuous torment resulting from brain damage, fragmented pelvis, fractured ribs, broken neck bone, and paralyzed limbs caused by the accident. In an interview with WenWeiPo, her mother said that when Ka-kei was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Tuen Mun Hospital, she was in a severely critical condition and had once stopped breathing. It was with the unfailing support of her family by her side and her unbeatable strong will to live that she ultimately turned Death away and was resuscitated. "Even the neurologist in charge thought Ka-kei's survival was a miracle," her mother said.
¡@Ka-kei was transferred to the orthopaedics department later but her ability to speak was not restored. Her family perceived her lonely mind only through her eyes. A few months later, Ka-kei was transferred to the rehabilitation centre of the Tuen Mun Hospital. It just happened that the doctor who took care of Ka-kei unexpectedly found that she was pressing with her right thumb the TV remote control which the doctor had unintentionally placed by her side. Not long, the Chan's family received a love message from Ka-kei which read, "I love you so much. I miss you and I want to see you!" Mrs Chan thought at that time it was the nurse who did this for her daughter. When she later learned that Kai-ke did it herself, she was so touched that she could not hold back tears, Mrs Chan recalled.
¡@Recently, Ka-kei was discharged from hospital and her condition was clearly much better. She slowly developed the ability to communicate with others in simple sentences. Furthemore, her right hand had gradually regained mobility. With the assistance of a family member, she can now grab hold of the bedstead with her right hand and use this as a support to sit up. She can even go out in a wheelchair.¡@¡½Translation by ¶}©ú
