在19世紀的港九新界馬路上,有不少牛車用來搬運垃圾和食水。
政府在窩打老道廣華醫院對面、西營盤和上環街市旁皆設有牛房。
1906年九廣鐵路興建期間,牛車被用作工程的運輸工具。
1920年代,港九的大馬路上仍有牛車運載垃圾。到了1930年代,牛車始被汽車取代,之後才漸被淘汰。
Buffalo Wagons, c. 1920
In the 19th century, buffalo wagons were used for transporting water and rubbish.
The Government kept buffalo farms on Waterloo Road ,on the opposite side of Kwong Wah Hospital, Sai Ying Poon and on the side of Western Market.
During the construction of the Kowloon-Canton Railway, buffalo wagons were the most common transportation means.
In the 1920s, buffalo wagons were still used on the main roads of Hong Kong and Kowloon for disposing of the rubbish.In the 1930s buffalo wagons were displaced by motor vehicles and eliminated finally. ■鄭寶鴻 香港歷史博物館名譽顧問
