2010年香港可以看見3次月偏蝕和1次日偏蝕，其中一月就可看到一次月偏蝕和一次日偏蝕。更巧合是一月的月偏蝕發生在元旦凌晨，而且是2010年最完整的一次。但這次月球被地球影子掩蓋最大時，也只相當於月球直徑的7.6%，因此這次月蝕過程很短。雖然如此，月蝕現象仍非常明顯，大家不必失望。在元旦凌晨01:27，當月球開始進入地球影子的朦朧邊緣(半影)時，月面便從原來的銀白色漸轉微黃色，較接近地球影子的一邊開始變得灰暗。月球實際被地球黑影遮掩的過程則由02:52開始，至03:52結束，而月球完全離開地球的半影時已是清晨05:28。
The New Year's Lunar Eclipse
We will be able to witness a total of 3 partial lunar eclipses and 1 partial solar eclipse in 2010. One of the partial eclipses will happen in the wee hours of the New Year's Day and it is the only eclipse that we will be able to observe from the beginning to the end. But only 7.6% of the Moon's diameter is immersed in the Earth's umbra at maximum eclipse. Although the New Year eclipse is not a major one it is still worthwhile observing. As soon as the Moon enters the penumbra(the blurry fringe of the Earth's shadow)at 01:27a.m., it will begin to turn from silvery white to slightly yellowish and the side nearest the umbra will begin to darken.
