Dr Sun said he hoped to lie in state after he died, so that the general public could see his body. The Soviet Union had a glass coffin specially made for Dr Sun. But the humid weather in the south means glass coffins are not suitable for preserving the remains of the deceased. The Preparatory Committee ordered a copper coffin from the U.S, in which Dr Sun's body was placed and buried in Nanjing.
