俄羅斯索契冬季奧運會8日凌晨隆重開幕，包括中國國家主席習近平在內的多位國家領導人出席開幕禮。俄羅斯希望透過舉辦一屆成功的冬奧會，向世界呈現嶄新強大的國際形象，進一步提升俄羅斯的國際地位。國家主席習近平出席冬奧會，是中國最高領導人首次出席境外大型體育賽事，意義特殊，彰顯中俄戰略合作關係牢固平穩。面對美日的圍堵和挑釁，中俄加強合作，既是為了維護中俄兩國的利益，也有利保持世界格局多極發展，維護世界和平穩定。
索契冬奧會是俄羅斯首次舉辦冬奧會，也是俄羅斯繼1980年舉辦莫斯科夏季奧運會後，30多年來第一次舉辦重大國際賽事。中俄是好鄰居、好夥伴、好朋友。中國國家主席習近平專程出席索契冬奧會，與俄羅斯分享喜慶之外，更具有特殊的政治意義。習近平去年3月擔任國家主席後，出訪首站即選擇俄羅斯。此次再訪俄羅斯，更是中國最高領導人首次赴國外出席大型國際體育賽事。這兩個「第一次」，充分體現中國對俄羅斯這個戰略合作夥伴的高度重視。索契冬奧會受到西方冷待，歐美多國政要缺席，更凸顯習近平的出席非常可貴，猶如寒冬送暖，體現出中俄關係的特殊性與高水平。
The special meaning of the Sochi Winter Olympics
The Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia was grandly kicked off before dawn on 8 February. The opening ceremony was attended by leaders of many countries, including President Xi Jinping of China. Russia has wished that, by hosting a successful Winter Olympics, it can present to the world a brand new image of a superpower and further improve its position in the international community. Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the Sochi Winter Olympics and it has been the first time a Chinese top leader appeared in a major sports event outside China. This bears a very special meaning as it signifies the firm and stable strategic cooperation between China and Russia. Faced with containment and provocation by US and Japan, China and Russia need to enhance their cooperation not only to safeguard the interests between the two countries but also to help sustain the development of a pluralistic framework in the international community and maintain peace and stability in the world.
The Sochi Winter Olympics is the first time Russia has hosted a Winter Olympics and also the first major international sports event Russia has held in more than 30 years since the 1980 Moscow Olympics. China and Russia are good neighbors, partners and friends. Chinese President Xi Jinping made a trip to attend the Sochi Winter Olympics to share the joy with Russia. This trip in fact also carries a very special political meaning. After Xi Jinping took over the position of president in March last year, Russia was chosen to be the destination of his first trip abroad. Now, he visited Russia again and this is the first time a top Chinese leader has attended a major international sports event outside China. The two "first" s fully demonstrate that China places great emphasis on Russia as a strategic partner. While the Western World gave a cold shoulder to the Sochi Winter Olympics in which many European and American leaders were absent, the presence of Xi Jinping has become particularly important.
