■有一些人會選擇走一些較少人走的路，拒絕平凡。 網上圖片行山遠足不時會發現一些小徑，在原本沒有路的地方出現。它們都是被眾多郊遊人士連續走過踏出來的。英文說的beat a path，就是這「開闢一條路徑」的意思，當中的動詞beat解作「行走、踏、踩」：
They beat a path from the top of the hill to the seaside.
他們開闢一條蹊徑，從山頂直下海邊。
好事蜂擁而至
這意象亦用作一個比喻。短語beat a path to someone's door（踏成了一條路到某人門口），即是很多人登門造訪，蜂擁而至，很受歡迎。
如果用於比喻作事情，例如工作，就是某些事件，例如差事不斷自行上門的意思：
When the company launches its newest phone model, customers will beat a path to its door.
當公司推出最新款的手機型號，顧客會紛至沓來，門庭若市。
If you work hard, success will beat a path to your door.
只要你努力工作，成功就會接踵而來。
人跡罕見偏僻地
不難想像，beaten path或beaten track是很多人走過的路，人人都走這條路。
由此，英文亦出現了一句常用語off the beaten path/track，意思是偏離人人都走的路徑，用以形容人跡罕見的偏僻地方，遠離交通要道、主要聚居地和擠擁人群：
The house she lived was completely off the beaten track. It was quiet but not very convenient.
她住的房子位置偏僻，遠離鬧市。環境很安靜，但不太方便。
The hotel is not popular because it is in a remote area off the beaten path.
這不是一間熱門的酒店，因為地處偏僻，遠離人群。
Off the beaten track反常規
有些人出外旅遊時，不想去人人都去的熱門地方，想要嘗試一下較冷門的路線，那也可用off the beaten track/path描述，形容人煙較少或一般遊客甚少會去的地方。
For visitors who like something off the beaten track in Hong Kong, hiking on mountain trails or touring round the outlying islands should be attractive.
對於一些喜歡另類遊蹤的訪港旅客來說，行山遠足或到離島流連應該很有吸引力。
引申開去，off the beaten track/path亦可形容一些有別於平常，不太傳統或不太一般的做法。
His opinions, quite off the beaten track, do not always appeal to the public.
他的意見有點離經叛道，並非常常為大眾受落。
Sometimes, it is not a bad idea to go off the beaten track and think outside the box.
有時，嘗試偏離正軌，在框框外思考，也不是一件壞事。
在我們面前，往往有很多條路可以選擇。有人會選一些大部分人都走的路，較安全穩妥。
不過，亦有一些人會選擇偏離常軌，走一些較少人走的路，off the beaten track，較有挑戰，拒絕平凡。各人自有不同選擇。
