Trump and first family rushed to shelter in fear of civil unrest
¡iĶ¤å¡jThe large-scale demonstration in the U.S. had continued. Protesters gathered outside the White House in Washington, DC and the police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. The mayor of Washington, DC had eventually followed multiple cities to impose a curfew. According to the U.S. media, with the emergency response level being raised to the highest after the "911" terrorist attack in 2001, the President Donald Trump was even briefly taken to the underground bunker by the Secret Service for a period of time and he was reportedly terrified of the protest. However, the President denied and blamed that it was a "fake news".
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the White House, who had been throwing bricks, repeatedly charging the cordon line of the law enforcement officers and pushing the shields of the Secret Service agents.
The White House officials revealed that the Secret Service staff immediately moved Trump to the "Presidential Emergency Operations Center" under the White House for almost an hour before returning to the ground.
The "Presidential Emergency Operations Center" is a temporary shelter for the U.S. President to hide and work in case of emergencies such as terrorist attacks. According to the Secret Service's code of conduct, if the President is taken to the underground bunker, other first family members would be moved as well. Hence, the first lady Melania and Trump's 14-year-old son Barron were reportedly also sent to the secure shelter that night.
The news report mentioned that the Trump family and White House staff members were frightened by the scale and ongoing development of the demonstrations, and the President also expressed concerns about his personal safety. Finally, all the people in the White House, including Trump, remained safe during the civil unrest.
About 1,000 demonstrators gathered outside the White House and shouted slogans at first. Then, some people crossed the fence at night and broke into the Lafayette Square at the north of the White House, set fire and destroyed public property. Subsequently, the police used pepper spray, tear gas and flash grenades to clear the group, and the nearby area was therefore filled with smoke and gas.
The Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser said that the situation was out of control, and announced that residents were not allowed to go out between 11 pm and 6 am. Yet, demonstrators still gathered in the city over the night and set fire everywhere.
Spokespersons of the White House refused to comment on the security arrangements of the Secret Service. A few minutes after the news was covered and released by the New York Times, Trump responded on Twitter blaming that it was a "fake news". The President took to Twitter to express his thanks to the Secret Service for the protection work delivered, saying that he "couldn't have felt more safe".
The Secret Service issued a separate statement mentioning that 6 people were arrested in the demonstration, and more than 60 officers and special agents were injured, 11 of whom were taken to hospitals.
The CNN quoted the internal emails of the White House, mentioning that the authority reminded staff members to keep their staff cards in a safe place until they were required to show their staff cards at the checkpoints of the Secret Service, and they should do the same in off-office hours. The White House also allowed staff to work from home as far as possible, and would continue strengthening security measures in response to the protests. The U.S. National Guard and Secret Service had also employed additional personnel to protect the White House.¡½Ãe¹Å»ö
