盧梭生於日內瓦，祖籍法國，是著名作家及哲學家。參與過編寫《百科全書》。他的著作《論人類不平等的起源和基礎》於1755年出版，轟動當時的歐洲社會，尤其在法國大革命期間對政治思想帶來重要影響。他在66歲時逝世，作為一代革命代表人物，他的遺體於1794年被正式遷往先賢祠。
A writer and philosopher, Jean-Jacques Rousseau was born in Geneva in a family of French origin.He contributed to the Encyclopaedia. In 1755, his Speech on the origins of inequality was a sensation, and would have a real impact on political thinking in particular during the French Revolution. He passed away at the age of 66. As a true symbol of the revolutionary generation his remains were solemnly transferred at the Pantheon in 1794. ■資料：香港歷史博物館
