灣仔最早的街市，是1844年設於皇后大道東與軍器廠街交界之東區街市。到了1858年，灣仔街市建於皇后大道東與灣仔道交界。
到了1937年，仍有東區街市的存在。
同年，一座新灣仔街市，在醫院山腳，即在舊街市的東鄰，舊街市遭拆卸後闢為一露天市集。2008年，一座連同住宅的現代化灣仔街市，在該露天市集上建成啟用。
Wan Chai Market, c. 1915
The earliest market in Wan Chai is the Eastern Market which was built in the area between Queen's Road East and Arsenal Street in 1844. Then the Wan Chai Market was built at Queen's Road East and Wan Chai Road in 1858.
Eastern Market was still there in 1937. In the same year, a new Wan Chai Market opened at the foot of Hospital Hill neighborhood of the old market which was demolished later for an open-air market .
A modern Wan Chai Market with resident blocks was built at the market place and began to operate in 2008. ■鄭寶鴻 香港歷史博物館名譽顧問
