Japan, lifting the ban on arms sales, is a threat to world peace
On 1 April, Japan passed the Three Principles on the Transfer of Defense Equipment, deregulating to a large extent the export of military equipment and technologies. The crux of the matter is that Japan has never deeply regretted the invasion and war crimes it committed in the past. On the contrary, it is now seeking to lift the ban on arms sales. This move fully exposes its ambition to become a military power and its plan to pave the way for the revival of militarism. This is a new threat to peace in the region. The international community including US should remain vigilant and watch closely Japan's attempt at strengthening its military power to prepare for war. The international community should jointly guard against the resurrection of militarism in Japan lest it will bring another disaster to the world.
As a technological power, Japan has a well-developed industrial base as well as high capabilities in the development and manufacturing of military equipment. It has in its possession the largest reserve of nuclear waste in the world and is equipped with the technology to make nuclear weapons. According to analysis, Japan is capable of manufacturing a nuclear bomb in just 6 months. Once the ban on the export of weapons is lifted, the arms manufacturers in Japan will then be able to acquire higher end technologies and more funding to make weapons. This will stimulate an inflation of Japan's arms industry, and the military might of the country will be further boosted. In addition, it is highly probable that Japan will export arms and military technologies to the East Asian countries in order to entice their support. This is going to be a catalyst for disputes and arms race in the region; and will so create more causes for regional tension.
Japan's militarism had once brought great disasters to the people of Asia and the world. Unfortunately, Japan has never regretted its wrongdoings; instead it has sought repeatedly to get rid of the limitations of the Peace Constitution and the ban on arms sales. Japan, a country equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and dreaming desperately of regaining the glory of an empire, will only heighten the danger of an accidental outbreak of military conflict with its neighbours, which is exactly what the countries around Japan should be worrying about and guarding against.¡½English Translation by Tung-ming
