很多年輕人都喜歡用「cool」這個字。他們說的不是涼而不冷的天氣，而是形容一些人或事很時尚，俗語說的「好有型」，或者今天說的「至潮」。
形容詞「cool」其實有多個意思，其中一個是「時尚、時髦、流行」，跟「fashionable」、「trendy」差不多，肯定是不老套、不守舊，且討人喜歡。

「Cool cat」為型格人士
源於cool 的這個意思，衍生了cool cat的說法，可以理解為型格人士，現在比較少用。這個詞語形容一個摩登的人，注重衣着、趨鶩時尚，酷愛新潮事物。
He is a fashion-conscious person and people call him a cool cat.
他對潮流的觸覺很敏銳，人人都說他是型格人士。
Around dinner time near the Central, you can see the cool cats in town.
晚飯時分，你會在中環一帶見到城中很多型格人士。
「chic」「hip」亦形容新潮
其實，要形容一些人或事十分時髦、時尚或新潮，還有許多形容詞可以用。再說兩個與cool意義相同的字，同樣是短小精簡。一個是chic，而另一個是hip，都是新潮的意思。
She is not very chic, but good looking.
她不是很新潮，但是很漂亮。
This model is for sure the hippest smart phone for the time being.
這款智能電話肯定是當今最新潮流的款式。
Many hip young people like to visit that small chic restaurant.
很多新潮青年都愛去那間時尚的小餐廳用膳。
