英語常見外借字
究竟甚麼是外借字（borrowed words）？其實，在英語世界中，經常出現一些拉丁文字，但因約定俗成，很多人已把它們當作英文生字。這些字稱為外借字。就如我們也會外借英文字，譬如的士（taxi）、咖啡（coffee）等。這說明了英文並非單一文化，而是受到不同文化影響。根據筆者的教學經驗，在DSE的閱讀理解卷（Reading Comprehension）中，考生也會在文章中看到外借字；如果對此缺乏認識，很可能會不明文意，失分慘重。今期，筆者會教大家一些常見（common）的外借字，大家再見到它們就不會一曉不通了。試做右面的練習，看一看自己懂多少外借字吧。

bona fide 真正的
chauffeur 私人司機
