小時候唱過的童謠《小白船》，早前成為劇集的插曲，又流行起來。《小白船》源自1924年創作的朝鮮童謠《半月》，令人想起月亮。歌詞首兩句：「藍藍的天空銀河裡，有隻小白船」，將月亮比喻作天空中一隻小白船，象徵遙遠的渴求和希冀。
月亮遠在天邊，以前在西方也代表了遙不可及的東西，常反映於語文當中。英文短語ask for the moon / cry for the moon，字面上是要求得到天上的月亮，實際是說某人想要沒有可能得到的東西，或者想做一些做不到的事情，猶如妄想摘下天上的月亮，可以說是異想天開，過分了。
I am afraid that you are asking for the moon. You have to be reasonable and realistic.
你這個要求恐怕辦不到，你必須合理一點，現實一點。
If she wants to rent such a large flat in the city centre for less than ten thousand dollars, she is crying for the moon.
如果她想用少於一萬元在市中心租面積這麼大的單位，簡直是異想天開。

他們的要求並不過分，不是天上的月亮，他們只是要求公平審訊。
同樣用遙不可及的月亮做比喻的，有另一短語promise someone the moon / promise the moon to someone，答應別人把月亮摘給他，一樣的道理，意思是答應別人一些根本辦不到的事情，作出不可能兌現的承諾，即是空口說白話。
Her husband promised her the moon when they got married. But he never lived up to his promises.
他們結婚時，丈夫許下一些空口的承諾，他一直沒有兌現。
Some banks lure customers into investing by promising the moon. You have to be careful because not everything they say will come true.
一些銀行作出不能兌現的承諾，引誘客戶投資。你必須審慎，因為他們說的並非每一樣都會成真。

另有一短語亦與月亮有關，是bay at the moon / howl at the moon。bay / howl是吠叫，是狗或狼一類的動物發出哮叫聲。對月咆哮，代表徒勞無功。月亮掛在遙遠的天空，在西方，狗隻對着滿月吠叫比喻無用、無效的行動。所以bay at the moon / howl at the moon意思是浪費時間、精神、氣力做一些沒有可能做到或是沒有效用的事情。
You can talk to your boss about a rise in salary. But I think you will be simply baying at the moon during this recession period.
你可以與老闆談加薪，但是我覺得在這個衰退時期，你只會徒勞無功。

世界各地，不同的人對月亮有不同的想像，賦予月亮不同的象徵。以前人們覺得月亮遙不可及，代表不可能的事情，ask for the moon、promise the moon、bay at the moon，這幾個用語說的都是空想。不過，現今人類已登月成功，征服不可能，上世紀六十年代便重唱了一首舊歌Fly me to the moon，就是要飛向月球。
