1881年，政府批出位於鰂魚涌的地段，供太古洋行興建煉糖廠，該一帶現為太古坊的多座商業大廈。
1901年，太古洋行又在鰂魚涌角興建一座太古船塢，並在鄰近西灣河太祥街至太安街的地段興建工人宿舍。
1967年，太安街宿舍發展為居住屋宇「太安樓」。到了1975年，原來的船塢陸續發展為住宅樓群的太古城及商業中心。
Taikoo Dockyard, c. 1965
In 1881, a land lot of Quarry Bay was granted to Butterfield & Swire Co. to build a sugar refinery. The site where the Taikoo Place and several commercial complexes are situated now.
The company constructed a Taikoo Dockyard at Quarry Bay in 1901.Then it also built some workers' accommodations on Tai Cheong Street and Tai On Street of Sai Wan Ho near the Dockyard.
In 1967, the accommodations of Tai On Street were converted into housing blocks "Tai On Building". In the 1970s, the dockyard was closed and the site had been begun to develop some residential blocks "Taikoo Shing" and commercial complexes. ■鄭寶鴻 香港歷史博物館名譽顧問
